Civil Ceremonies

Uniquely located in the valley of Glendalough, The Glendalough Hotel offers spectacular backdrops for Photos and 2 possible rooms for your ceremony each with their own unique features.

The Glendalough Hotel is registered and licensed for Civil Ceremonies, call the team to arrange a viewing and experience the beutiful and serene setting that could be part of your special day.

Things to know before you start:

Venues for civil ceremonies have to be pre-approved and licensed. The requirement was that the ceremony area had to a be fixed structure and meet various legal criteria now the civil ceremony can be held outdoors in pre-approved areas, which in practice means you can get married in our outdoor garden.

Registrars (civil servants) can legally marry couples at non-religious ceremonies in Ireland. (As of 2013 you can also have a secular ceremony organised by The Humanist Association)

A minimum of 3 months is required but there is usually a longer lead time so plan ahead and allow plenty of time to register with your registry office or you may end up getting married on a Monday at 9.30am! You can only get married by a registrar in Ireland from Monday to Friday (no weekend ceremonies unfortunately).

However your Legal Civil ceremony can also be organised by The Humanist Association or Spiritual Ceremonies.

To assist you with your planning we have outlined some important numbers below:

We have a number of options, both outdoor and indoor:

The Glendalough hotel has a Lawn at the back of the hotel where you can get married with the most stunning backdrop of St. Kevins Round Tower and the Monastic Site. This is Ireland so we advise couples to hire one of our indoor suites to ensure a back up plan should it rain.

The Glendalough Suite has panoramic views over the valley and is a gorgeous indoor option – this magnificent room has breathtaking views over the valley. Steeped in natural daylight this Suite can accommodate up to 150 guests.

The Coffee Lounge in the original hotel building can host more intimate ceremonies from 10 to 30 guests.
