Biking

Whether you bring your bikes or want to hire some during your visit there are great trails in Wicklow for you to enjoy and something for all abilities.

Ballinastoe Mountain Bike Trail system

This mountain trail takes the rider through some beautiful forest with views east over Calary Common and the Sugarloaf with the sea beyond. At the top of the trail, Lough Tay, ( you may know it as the Guinness lake), and the mountains beyond give views worth the effort of the climb, you will get to see Wicklow at its best.

Experience many types of terrain from open heather moorland on the top through thicket spruce and Scot’s Pine on the lower section. It can get windy and the weather in Ireland is unpredictable so remember to dress for wind on the more exposed parts of the ride and bring raingrear just in case.

The Ballinastoe system is a one-way system constructed to give a challenging and rewarding ride by one of the sports legends. Bikes can be hired via Biking.ie

Fat Bike Adventures

Based in Belmont Demesne this is where you can experience Fat Bike Adventures. If you haven’t tried Fat Bikes before then you are in for a treat. This working farm has a network of walking and biking trails and there is a cafe and Pizza.

The Bike trails are designed for all abilities and the team at Fat Bike Adventures will set you up for a great day’s adventures. There are two pump tracks to help you hone your skills and get to know your bike, you never know who is going to surprise you with skills on these courses.

You could bike in the morning then have pizza and follow that with a walk along Bray head loop afterwards.

Glencullen Adventure Park

Glencullen Adventure Park offers bike rental and safety gear hire for these downhill trails that range in technical difficulty from intermediate to expert. This is probably more suited to more experienced bikers and is full of beautiful scenary.

Along the route, you may spy on an ancient giant’s grave and 4000-year-old megalithic tomb so its not just pretty landscapes. There is a pedal up track or use the uplift service. call 01 294 2784 or email hellp@thegap.ie
