Welcome to Glendalough Valley in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East

Surrounded by the valley of Glendalough in County Wicklow, the Glendalough Hotel has been in the valley since the 1830s.

Thursday 14th February: Unfortunately the Internet connection into the hotel building is not working and will not be fixed over the  bank Holiday weekend. We apologies for any inconvenience, this is outside of our control. Please contact us by phone for any urgent requests or changes to bookings as we are not receiving emails.

This family-run hotel offers simple comforts surrounded by stunning scenery in a traditional Irish Hotel.

The Glendalough Hotel is located on 2 acres and is literally steps from the Majestic St Kevin’s Tower and the world-renowned Monastic City, we are the only hotel in Glendalough.

The hotel gardens travel along the boundary of the Monastic City down to the Glendasan river. Many of our guest bedrooms have views into the valley where the ever-changing Irish weather ensures that no two days’ views are the same.

There are many reasons to visit Glendalough, the valley is popular for hikes like the Wicklow Way, and there are gentle walks down to the two lakes, the upper and lower lakes, from the hotel. The Monastic City was located here for the peace and tranquillity that surrounds it, visitors come from all over the world to attend spiritual retreats at the Monastic site organised by the many retreat centres located near the hotel.

Visit our Things to do to see some of our favourite attractions and places to visit near the Glendalough Hotel.

Photographers delight in the range of scenes, from hills to valleys, lakesides and forests, there are many special moments visited by wildlife in the valley including deer and red squirrels.

Those with an interest in geography can enjoy the vista and trace the history of the valley through its geology. There is a lot to learn and see in the landscapes of County Wicklow, known as, “The Garden of Ireland”. Ireland is full of mythical stories, with stones, ruins and markings on our landscapes that tell stories, Glendalough is central to these stories at the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East.
